The third trailer for ‘Apollo 18′ reveals more of the film’s plot twists and turns. Has too much been revealed, or could the film have something else up its sleeve?
The marketing campaign for Apollo 18 has been kind of a mixed bag. Many people have expressed their disappointment in the first theatrical preview, which appeared to give away some of the film’s more significant secrets. By comparison, the second Apollo 18 trailer and later TV spots did a better job of teasing the spooky “found footage” flick’s various twists and turns, without revealing too many details.
www.edufunclub.com/ChildCareServiceAds by GoogleThose who thought the second Apollo 18 trailer had too many fake horror documentary clichés and jump scares should appreciate this latest preview, which is comparatively more subtle and atmospheric in design. However, it also gives away a whole lot more information than you may care in know in advance.
Officially, Apollo 17 , launched December 17th, 1972 was the last manned mission to the moon. But in December of 1974, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense . What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.
Props to the Apollo 18 marketing team for going the Cloverfield route and not revealing the monster (or, in this case, sinister extra-terrestrial) in advance. It also stands to reason that the logic behind revealing so much about what eventually happens to one of the space explorers in the film is because there are much bigger plot twists in store - possibly, concerning where exactly the mysterious alien life form in Apollo 18 comes from and why NASA sent two of its astronauts back to the moon, fully aware of the potential dangers that awaited them.
Sadly, there are numerous signs that indicate Apollo 18 is kind of a bust. There’s the constant shifting back and forth of its release date (never a good sign); the rumors about extensive re-editing being done in order to salvage the film; and, lastly, the Weinstein Company ’s decision to release the project during the last weekend of the summer movie season, with Shark Night 3D being the only “significant” competition. All in all, that doesn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence.
We’ll find out if this latest Apollo 18 trailer is a last-ditch effort to attract interest in the film by giving away some of its important secrets for free - or if it’s actually just a taste of better things to come - when the film opens wide in the U.S. this week on September 2nd.
shacasha 3 days agoIm calling the ending now: the guy who gets bit goes insane early on and tries to smash the thing like in the trailer *”nate stop youll kill us both!”.this progresses throughout until he becomes fully psychotic so the other guy locks him out of the shuttle.so the bit guy smashes the window with the hammer causing the guy inside to suffocate(in the first trailer you can see this happening) and the other guy being insane is wandering around the moon talking to a picture of his family. when he is attacked by the aliens( which obviously would finally reveal them)
Steve 3 days agoI’m not super excited to see this, but I’m a big fan of found footage, first person films. So will see how the reviews are and I might go see it.
You, on the other hand, are free to do whatever you please. For now, people are still allowed to review movies and people are still allowed to read them – although I’m sure you’d love to see some law passed where no one was allowed to review movies. Except for you, of course.
Pharoah 2 days agoThey’ve shown way too much key footage for this. Im pretty sure I could piece together the whole movie by just watching all the released footage but I’ve tried not to watch or concentrate on the trailers. Still though, the only way im buying tickets for this is if screenrant tells me the ending is so epic and insanely awesome/shocking with a twist that no one saw coming. If not, then this is definitely a rental.
Yessur 1 day agoIt’s too bad that the production company didn’t take the extra effort to use the air bladders that are supposed to be used with these space suits. The air bladders ‘inflate’ the space suits to give them the real look when they are pressureized (any time they are outside of the space craft). Notice the baggy look of the space suits when they are outside of the space craft. It is obvious to space buffs that this is not ‘found footage’ but an example of a costume designer who didn’t do things the right way. The same space suits can be seen in Immaculate Desolation (IMAX) looking the way they should. It’s too bad for this film that such a simple thing was over-looked. It could have looked very authentic.
The Big Dentist 1 day agoGood point, Yessur. It’s a small thing, but if I remember rightly not even the Apollo 13 movie got that right in the brief sequence where Tom Hanks imagines himself on the moon. Wouldn’t be difficult to fit something rigid under the fabric, or inflatable bladders, like you say. The Apollo astronauts all mentioned the basic mobility problems once the suit had been pressurised, and that was one of the reasons (along with the low gravity) for the “bunny hop” they developed to move around on the lunar surface.
Yessur 2 minutes agoThose space suit costumes already have inflatable bladders to create the proper look. The costumes can be used without the bladders (which is correct for when they are inside the space craft) but should have been used when they left the Lunar Lander. Somewhere in the process someone didn’t bother to do their job right, either the costumers or the costume rental house. Sad really.
John "Kahless" Taylor 1 day agoI don’t see any reviews on RT. Not looking good. The movie comes out tomorrow and if there are no reviews before the official release date, that usually denotes a bad film.
